At The Funhouse

Lindsay: (waving a cup of coffee under his face) Good morning sunshine.

Troy: Lindsay.

Lindsay: Oh I'll tell you, there's nothing that beats a good cup of coffee in the morning. I know that's certainly true for me. Matter of fact, you should see me before my morning caffeine. I look pretty bad . . . kind of like a, well . . . you! I know it was wrong of me to disturb your beauty rest. Frankly, I was surprised you were awake. I thought that you'd be up half the night wondering what else I did to your Nora . . . Still not talking huh? . . . Well I think that you'd better start thinking about it . . . You going to tell me where that tape is? . . . Or am I going to have to do some really, really bad things to Nora?

Troy: No Lindsay, I'm not going to tell you where the tape is, because I don't believe you'd really hurt Nora.

Lindsay: Isn't that why you worked so hard to make a complete fool out of me to begin with? Because you thought I hurt Nora.

Troy: Lindsay . . .

Lindsay: You loved every minute of it, didn't you? Making me believe that you were in love with me. That you were going to marry me. Pretending like you were Colin and keeping me trapped here. Making me think I was going to die. And you did all that because you thought I hurt Nora.

Troy: NO, you DID hurt Nora!

Lindsay: You broke my heart! You took away my dreams. But Troy MacIver, you are not going to take away my freedom! You are not going to send me to prison with that tape.

Troy: I guess we're just going to have to see about that, won't we?

Lindsay: You can't have it both ways; you can't protect Nora and punish me. You know you've been going on and on about how much you love her. Do you really hate me that much more?

Troy: That's not the point. I'm telling you, you are going to be punished.

Lindsay: Even if it kills Nora?

Troy: What are you going to do to her?

Lindsay: Something much worse than I did before!

Troy: If you did anything to Nora, you'd be the first person they'd suspect.

Lindsay: Would I?

Troy: Lindsay, you're already a suspect with me missing.

Lindsay: Well see, that helps me actually, because I already told Sam that you and Nora have been sneaking around.

Troy: That's what he always thought anyway.

Lindsay: Nora confirmed it. . . So if she disappears, everyone would think that you just ran off together.

Troy: I thought you said that Nora told Sam that she loved him. And besides, that tape is still out there. It's still out there waiting to be found Lindsay. And you're going to spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder. You're going to wake up every moring, wondering if today is the day that you're going to be caught. Do you really want to live the rest of your life that way?

Starr enters the secret passage and hides there watching and listening to what's being said.

Lindsay: How will I get caught? . . . I mean you and Nora won't be around to accuse me. Anyone who finds that tape, will have to know the life and times of Nora Buchanan or it won't make a bit of sense.

Troy: I'm sure someone saw you looking for that tape Lindsay. You don't think they'll be suspicous?

Lindsay: No one saw me.

Troy: You mean besides Nora and Sam!

Lindsay: Like I said, even Nora will be gone.

Troy: Right. And what about Sam, huh? You going to make him disappear too, Houdini? . . . And now that Nora saw you, she knows something's up. She knows I didn't leave town. And Nora's going to try and find me.

Lindsay: She's not going to find you, because I'll stop her first and then I'll come back here and stop you.

Troy: I'm warning you Lindsay, you better stay away from Nora!

Lindsay: All you have to do is tell me where that tape is Troy, and Nora won't get hurt.

Troy: No!

Lindsay: Well, I'm sorry that you won't get a chance to kiss her good-bye.

Lindsay leaves through the passage, while Starr hides so that she's not seen.

Troy: Oh Nora! What did I do?

Starr: (entering the main room) That lady's just like Cruelle De Ville.

Troy: You're back!

Starr: Of course I'm back. And Mr. Man on the Wheel, I'm going to get you outta here!

Troy: What are you . . .

Starr: (dragging over a crate in front of Troy) That's better . . . Good thing I found this.

Troy: Well listen, did you call the police? Did you tell your parents that I'm here?

Starr: I said I would, didn't I? I told them all about you.

Troy: Oh great . . . And?

Starr: And I got you some orange juice.

Troy: Orange juice! Thank you . . . thank you. I'm so thirsty.

Starr: Here.

Troy: Hmmm. (drinking the juice) So what happened?

Starr: When?

Troy: When you told your parents? Did they call the police?

Starr: No.

Troy: No? Did they call anybody?

Starr: They only said that they were going to call Rae Cummings. But I'm not crazy!

Troy: No, I know you're not.

Starr: And they took away my cell phone and locked me up with Heddy.

Troy: Who's Heddy?

Starr: Have you ever read Hansel and Gretel?

Troy: Mmm hmm. (drinking the juice) Everybody has. Yes.

Starr: Well she's just like the witch . . . only worse!

Troy: Ok, look . . . listen to me. Is this Heddy with you right now?

Starr: No way, because if she knew , she would just tell my mom and dad.

Troy: Wait a minute! Are you saying that you're parents don't even know that you're here?

Starr: They were too busy with Jackie Wackie. Except when they made me promise never to lie again.

Troy: So you mean your parents think that you were lying about finding me?

Starr: That's why I'm here all by myself.

Troy: So why would your parents think that you were lying about finding me?

Starr: I don't get it either. I mean just because I ran away and told them that I was kidnapped by this man with a stick.

Troy: Kidnapped by a man with a stick? . . . All right listen, I know a way to get them to believe you.

Starr: You do!

Troy: Oh I do . . . All you have to do is get me out of here, ok. And as soon as I get out of here, I'm going to tell them what a big hero you are.

Starr: And then they'll pay attention to me instead of stupid Jack.

Troy: That's right! They will . . . but first I got to get out of here, ok. So here's what I want you to do. I want you to help me. I want you to go outside and I want you to find a pay phone and call the police or I want you to flag down a cab or do something. Just find someone and tell them that you saw me here, ok?

Starr: I can't.

Troy: You can't? Why . . . why . . . why can't you? . . . Wait a minute . . . Why can't you?

Starr: Because no one believes me now.

Troy: Well who else did you lie to?

Starr: Not a lot of people, I mean, just my Aunt Viki, my grandma and the chief of police.

Troy: The chief of police! . . . Wait a minute . . . I know someone that would believe you.

Starr: You do!

Troy: Oh I do . . . Her name is Nora Buchanan, ok? I'm going to give you her number and I want you to remember it.

Starr: NO! I can't remember numbers.

Troy: Ok, so then write it down.

Starr: I don't have a pencil.

Troy: But . . . what do you mean? You have a backpack . . . check in there . . . maybe you have a pencil in that backpack . . . No?

Starr: No . . . But I almost forgot. (she pulls out a hammer)

Troy: What? What is . . . ?

Starr: The alarm system guys left this in the hall closet.

Troy: The alarm system guys?

Starr: I brought it to get you out of here.

Troy: Oh boy! Ok, ok, ok . . . Uh . . . Oh this isn't going to be easy, but I think we can do it.

Starr: Of course we can!

Troy: Ok, ok . . . (Starr gets ready to bang the hammer) Uh. Uh, Uh, Uh, Uh . . . Here's what we're going to do, all right? We're going to hit this hard as you can, ok? (she gets ready to swing the hammer again) Hey, you got to aim first, ok!

Starr: Ok.

Troy: Ready?

Starr: Go! (she swings the hammer and hits his hand)

Troy: Ow! Ow! Ow!

Starr: I'm sorry . . . I'm sorry!

Troy: Ow!

Starr: Sorry!

Troy: Ahh! It's ok . . . it's ok . . . It's all right, but I think we should try something different, don't you?

Starr: Yeah!

Troy: Yeah . . . ok . . .good . . . All right, why don't we try . . . put the hammer behind here and see if we can't pry this open . . . (Starr slips the hammer's handle between the steel ring and wheel) Go! . . . Just pry it!

Starr: (trying to pry the ring lose) I think I'm getting some where!

Troy: (pulling on handcuffs) Keep trying.

The poisonous spider starts crawling on the wheel close to Starr's hands.
