In The Park
Matthew: Can I go on the slide?
Nora: Oh honey, I . . .
Sam: Hey kiddo, how about that sand box?
Matthew: Yeah!
Sam: Okay stay in the light. Be careful. (sitting on the bench next to Nora) You tired?
Nora: (keeping a watchful eye on Matthew) I'm a wreck. I can't let Matthew out of my sight.
Sam: Yeah, I know. These blood tests he's getting have me pretty worried too.
Nora: You know, Troy said that it was entirely possible that the results . . .
Sam: (irritated) YES I KNOW what Troy said. (noticing Nora's agitation over his response) Well this is all going to be over pretty soon. You know, in fact, we should be going. (standing) I didn't realize how late it was.
Nora: (standing) Sam, I don't want you to come with me when the tests are taken.
Sam: I'm Matthew's father, Nora! I have a right to be with him when he takes those tests.
Nora: Not if you're going to pick a fight with the doctor.
Sam: Oh, so that's what this is about . . . Troy MacIver and me. Oh!
Nora: There's nothing more upsetting to a child than to see two grown-ups fighting. And I do not want Matthew upset today.
Sam: Well neither do I. You know I had a feeling this is what was still bothering you. So let's just clear the air, okay! I mean I admit that the line for me between Colin and Troy is still a little bit blurry . . . but I'm convinced he's a fine doctor.
Nora: Since when?!
Sam: Well, since I saw him in action.
Nora: And when was that?
Sam: Well when I paid him a little visit at the hospital.
Nora: Oh Sam, you didn't!
Sam: I did. I did but I didn't get very far because, because Blair called me out of the blue from Mexico you know, on my cell phone about having her baby. And so I had to put Troy on with Todd so he could walk him through the deliver over the phone.
Nora: Blair's baby?!
Sam: Yes and I have to admit that Troy was good. He was cool and professional with Todd and warm and encouraging with Blair, and I'm convinced he'll give our son the treatments he needs. And that, of course, is what's most important.
Nora: Thank you for saying that . . . Of course I want you there when the tests are taken
Sam: Thank you. You know I now apologize if my suspicions are in appropriate. All I can say in my defense is the reason I worry so much is because I care so much.
Nora: (hugging Sam) I love you for that. Oh god, you don't have to worry about Troy MacIver. (Sam has a doubtful look on his face)
At the Hospital
Troy is on the phone with Bo, discussing the lab results of the blood sample.
Troy: I've gone over the blood work very thoroughly Commissioner. There's no sign of leukemia.
Bo: What if I uh had had it and then I recovered somehow?
Troy: You mean gone into remission? NO! No not possible, especially if it was a recent diagnosis. The blood sample I have here is only consistent with a subject who has no signs of leukemia.
Bo: (looking over at Melanie) Are you sure of that?
Troy: Just as sure as I am that this isn't your sample.
Bo: I'm sorry doctor, I had a situation develop and I had to use discretion.
Troy: Well, I would recommend that whoever gave you this sample come in for a complete work up, but from what I'm seeing under this microscope, you can tell whoever it is that if they were any healthier, they would live forever.
Later
Troy: Ah, Miss Clancy, I'm expecting NORA Buchanan shortly. She's bringing in her son Matthew for some blood work. I want you to do me a favor. Let me know when she comes in. If you can't find me, just have me paged.

Miss Clancy: It sounds like you're giving Matthew top priority.
Troy: I am. His case means alot to me.
After Sam and Nora have arrived with Matthew.
Troy: (kneeling in front of Matthew) Do you know why you're here today?
Matthew: You gotta take blood out of me with a needle.
Troy: That's right.
Matthew: Will it hurt a whole lot?
Troy: Well a little more than an itch, but a whole lot less than a scratch, which isn't so bad for a brave little man like you. Now I want you to do me a favor. You see that nice nurse over there? I want you to go with her and she's going to take real good care of you, okay?
Matthew: Can daddy come too?
Troy: (standing) Sure.
Sam: (picking up Matthew) Let's go. (follows the nurse into the exam room)
Nora: This is the worse part, you know . . . the waiting.
Troy: (taking Nora's hand, which surprises her) Look, I want you to know that I'm going to be personally monitoring his case.

Nora: Why?!
Troy: Because there's a child involved, and there's nothing more important in the world than that.
Matthew, Sam and Nora are waiting for Troy.
Troy: Hey Matthew, you want to go see the new fish in the aquarium? I hear they have a fish there that looks just like a tiger.
Nora: Rooaaarrr!!!
Troy: (holding out a sucker) And look what else I have for you.

Nora: Go head. What do you say?
Matthew: Thanks.
Sam: (setting Matthew) Go ahead Tiger. Go ahead. (they watch Matthew leave with the nurse)
Troy: He'll be fine. He's going to have a great time. In the meantime, I have his test results.
