Nora: (kneeling next to her son) Matthew! Matthew sweetie, are you alright? Matthew!

Troy: Nora let me take a look at him.

Nora: NO! YOU stay away from my son. DON'T YOU TOUCH HIM!

Troy: Nora! I am not Colin! I am not Colin, I am a doctor. Now you need to calm down and you need to trust me. I CAN help him. Nora it's very important that you let go and you trust me. Now your son needs help and I can give him that.

Nora: (scooting back) Yes please. Help him please.

Troy: Thank you. (beginning his examination)

Nora: Oh sweetie.

Troy: (leaning over Matthew) His breathing is fine.

Nora: Okay.

Troy: His pulse is strong. (putting his hand on Matthew's chest, he gently shakes him) Matthew! Wake up Matthew! Come on, can you hear me? Wake up!

Nora: Matthew sweetie, please open your eyes, honey. Can you open your eyes? Can you open them? (Matthew opens his eyes) Hey, hi! Do you know what happened sweetie? Are you alright? (Matthew starts to moan) What, you're hurting? Where does it hurt?

Troy: What's wrong? Where does it hurt? (Matthew grabs his shoulder)

Nora: OH NO! ON NO! Okay I'm going to call the hospital. I'm going to call 911

Troy: NO! NO! Listen to me, okay. Now your son needs help. I need permission to treat your son.

Nora: He's in pain!

Troy: Nora his shoulder is dislocated and we have to take care of this now.

Nora: How do you know it's not a fracture?

Troy: I'm positive it's not a fracture, okay. Here's what I need you to do. I want you to place both hands right here. (placing his hands on Matthew's shoulder)

Nora: What on his shoulder like that? Okay.

Troy: Firmly, right there.

Nora: (moving into position) Okay. Hard? Ok, it's ok sweetie.

Troy: Now Matthew, I want you to do a favor for me. Matthew I want you to be brave for me okay? (Matthew nods) It's going to hurt for a second, but then it's going to be fine.

Nora: Don't cry. It's okay. (Nora holds his shoulder and Troy manipulates his arm)

Troy: Okay. Does that feel better?

Nora: Does it hurt anymore sweetie? No?

Troy: (feeling Matthew's neck) How's that feel Matthew? Does that hurt? Good! I want you to do a favor, okay? I want you to move your legs. Can you do that? (He moves them and they laugh) Good! Good! Good! Okay now grab my hands (Matthew takes his hands) and I want you to squeeze as hard as . . . OH Okay! (Nora laughs) That's a good job. One more favor okay, because I forgot. Can you tell me your mommy's name?

Matthew: (He sits up) Her name is Nora.

Nora: You shouldn't get up, sweetie . . . I guess he's fine.

Troy: Yeah, obviously his neck's okay. Nothing's broken.

Nora: Come here. (she hugs him)

Troy: (standing, he pulls out a phone) I'm going to call the ER and alert them that we're coming in. He's going to need a head CT since he was unconscious. He's going to be fine.

Nora: Thank you very much.

Matthew: I'm sorry I didn't hold on Mommy.

Nora: Oh sweetie. Let's talk about that later. Right now I just want to hold you and love you, cause I do. I just love you so much.

Matthew: Doctor man is nice.

At The Hospital

Nora is holding Matthew, while Troy writes down a list of test he wants Matthew to have.

Nurse: How about I show you some real neat stuff we've got in the other room.

Nora: Ooh, it's like Matthew's big adventure, isn't it? You can go there and then you can tell all your friends at school everything that happened, right?

Matthew: Okay.

Nora: (handing Matthew to the nurse) Okay.

Troy: (ripping a piece off a piece of paper and handing it to the nurse) I want to run a head CT Scan, skenotite protocol, plus the other tests I've listed.

Nurse: Yes doctor. (carries Matthew into the examination room)

Troy: Thank you.

Nora: I'll be right here, honey, okay. I'm not going anywhere.

Troy: What a cute kid, huh?

Nora: Yeah.

Troy: Nora I just have a couple questions for you.

Nora: Uh, okay.

Troy: Has Matthew ever had any accident like this before?

Nora: No.

Troy: Never any bad falls?

Nora: NO! I mean, well he's not a shrinking violet, he is a little boy. I mean, you know at the end of the day he does have a couple of new boo boos to show me, you know. Nothing like this. This is, you know.

Troy: Has he ever complained of dizziness or headaches?

Nora: No.

Troy: Had any seizures?

Nora: No, why? Is something wrong? Because you're kind of starting to scare me a little bit.

Troy: Oh no, no it's just routine. Anytime a child has an accident like this, we just want to make sure we get a good history.

Nora: Okay.

Troy: I'll be right back. (goes into the examination room)

Nora: Okay.

Later...

Lanie: Nora!

Nora: Hi!

Lanie: Was that Matthew that they just brought in?

Nora: Oh yeah. He dislocated his shoulder.

Lanie: Is he alright?

Nora: Well, yeah he's fine. Thank you.

Lanie: Well how did it happen?

Nora: Oh, he was on the swings, swinging a little high and he fell.

Lanie: You must have been terrified.

Nora: Oh no I was so calm, cool and collective. Amazing mother . . . actually Troy was there when it happened and he, you know fixed it immediately.

In Examining room

Nurse: Doctor, the tests you ordered aren't exactly routine. Do you suspect something?

Troy: Now do me a favor. After you run these tests make sure you give me those results personally, okay?

Nurse: Okay.

Troy: Thanks.

Troy: (pulling up a chair in front of Matthew) Hey little man. No more playing monkey in the treetops, okay! (Nora opens the door and watches Troy examine and talk with Matthew. Then she has flashbacks from their talk in the park earlier.) We don't want to give Mommy more scares now do we?

Matthew: No!

Troy: No.

Nora watches as Troy begins his examination of Matthew. As she looks on, she recalls the conversation with Troy in the park, and Troy's claims that he's only trying to make up for what Colin did by helping people through the clinic.

Later, Nora leaves a message for Sam to call her, without telling him exactly what happened. Just that it was important.

Nora: There's nothing like trying to leave a cryptic message for someone so they don't worry, that's only going to make them worry.

Lanie: Hmmm I know. It's always better to explain details to someone in person, right?

Nora: Oh god, how long have they been in there? (she opens the door to check and watches Troy and Matthew. Shaking her head in disbelief, she returns to the hallway.)

Lanie: I know! I know how you feel. It's difficult to see him as a different person.

Nora: Matthew thinks he's great.

Lanie: Yeah, well Colin's patients loved him too. I mean he was a very caring and devoted doctor, and apparently Troy is too.

Nora: Is he?

Lanie: Well it's not easy to work with him at the hospital. I mean everytime I see him, my stomach just backflips. I suppose it's even harder on you.

Nora: Oh, it's just the decision to stay in Llanview.

Lanie: I know. But I guess he's here to stay, whether we like it or not. And there's nothing you can do about it. Excuse me. (leaves)

Nora: Maybe there is.

Troy comes out of the examination room.

Troy: We need to talk.

Nora: Yes we do . . . I'm not sure I know where to begin Troy. Uh . . .

Troy: Well then why don't you let me say what I have to say first. It's about Matthew. He's fine.

Nora: Uh good. I love good news.

Troy: He's a great kid.

Nora: Thank you.

Troy: And he's very proud of his mom.

Nora: Of me?

Troy: Oh yeah. He knows you helped reset his shoulder.

Nora: Oh I didn't do anything.

Troy: Well somebody did, because I couldn't have done it alone. I'll tell you what, why don't you go in and say hi to him and I'm going to write his discharge order and then you'll be able to take him home shortly.

Nora: Okay, thank you. Very much.

Troy: It was my pleasure.

Nora: (goes in examining room) Uh, excuse me . . . I'm looking for Matthew Rappaport. He's my son. You're not Matthew Rappaport, right? (Matthew nods his head yes) No now. Are you sure? I don't see how that's possible, because my son was this high. (holding out her hand)

Matthew: I'm sitting on a table Mommy!

Nora: You're right! That's it! That's the difference. YOU are my Matthew. (sitting) Hey sweetie pie, now listen you . . . you big boy you. I'm going to be able to take you home pretty soon and when I do, after I stop hugging you to pieces, and after you finish the ice cream that you're allowed to have and anything else that you want, you and I are going to sit down and have a little talk.

Matthew: Because I was bad?

Nora: Oh sweetie, no! Because when Mommy asks you to do something or tells you not to do something like swing too high on the swingset, it's really important that you listen to me, right. Other than that, you're going to drive your mommy crazy.

Matthew: Can Troy be my doctor?

Nora: Troy! Um I don't . . . well no, I mean, boys and girls have special doctors sweetie. I mean, so, no it's just not up to me, maybe it is . . . I LOVE YOU. You wait right here. I'll be right back. (to the nurse) Excuse me, I'm going to go a minute. (To Matthew) DON'T GO anywhere. (Nora leaves)

Nora: Melanie! Have you seen Troy? Do you know where he is?

Lanie: Ah, he just left the hospital. I'm not sure where he went.

Later - Sam storms off the elevator.

Sam: Nora!

Nora: Hi!

Sam: Where's Matthew?

Nora: He's in there. He's fine. He's fine. Really! Everything's okay. Thankfully, you know.

Sam: Did MacIver do it?

Nora: Do what?!

Sam: Hurt Matthew. I talked to a cop who said that he was there.

Nora: NO! Sam . . . calm down . . . relax. Matthew's fine. Didn't you get my message to meet Matthew and I in the park?

Sam: Yeah I got it, but I got it way too late.

Nora: Okay, well Matthew was swinging on a swing. He got a little too rambunctious, swung too high and he fell. And Troy happened to be there and he tended to him right there on the spot. And everything's fine. But he suggested that we come here and get some Cat scans.

Sam: Why didn't you call me, Nora?! Why didn't you call me?!

Nora: Have you checked your messages recently?

Sam: No.

Nora: Okay.

Sam: Okay . . . so, okay, everything's alright?

Nora: Yeah you can let your blood pressure drop about 100 points. The cat scan was normal Sam.

Sam: Okay. What was MacIver doing in the park? Was he following you?

Nora: WOW! He's right! You really are suspicous.

Sam: Well you bet I am. Ever since he made his sudden decision to stay here in Llanview.

Nora: Which, by the way, why didn't you tell me that while I was in Chicago?

Sam: (chuckling) Have you checked your messages lately?

Nora: Oh.

Sam: I didn't want to worry you on your vacation. But I called you earlier to tell you to call me as soon as you got in and I left a message at your house warning you to be on the look out.

Nora: Thank you. I should have known you'd try to run interference.

Sam: Yeah, well I wish I could run something else through that guy . . .

Nora: Okay Sam, you know what's really important for you to remember? Matthew was hurt. Troy was there and he was a godsend.

Sam: Well so what! Everybody said that Colin was a great doctor. But that didn't stop him when it came to you Nora. Now Troy is playing games just like his brother. I mean starting with this decision . . .

Nora: OKAY you know what . . . I have been traveling all day, I'm stressed out about Matthew and I REALLY don't want to argue with you about this.

Sam: You're right. You're right. We can talk about MacIver some other time. I'm going to go in and see Matthew now.

Nora: Hey! Uh, don't blow a gasket when he tells you that he thinks Troy is great, okay! (Sam goes in) Good to see ya!

Nora goes to call Troy at home.

Troy: (wrapping a towel around his waist) Dr. MacIver.

Nora: Uh doctor, it's Nora Buchanan.

Troy: Nora, hey!

Nora: I didn't get a chance to thank you for everything you did for Matthew when you were here at the hospital.

Troy: Oh please, I'm just glad everything turned out okay.

Nora: Oh me too.

Troy: Well I do appreciate the call Nora. Thank you.

Nora: There is one other thing that I wanted to talk to you about. You left me with quite a decision to make. You said that you would leave town if I asked you to.

Troy: That's right, I did.

Nora: Well I've made that decision. I don't think it's fair. I don't think I can ask you to do that.

Troy: (smiling) Well then, I guess I'm staying.

Nora: I guess I'll be seeing you around from time to time.

Troy: I hope so Nora. Good bye.

Nora: Good bye Troy.
