Thursday July 6, 2000
Colin walks into Lanie's office carrying a bouquet of flowers. She's holding a small American flag from her 4th of July celebration with Bo the previous night.
Colin: Since when did you become a flag waver?
Lanie: {startled} Don't sneak up on me like that.
Colin: {hands her the flowers} Here. Happy... whatever day.
Lanie: This wasn't really-
Colin: Necessary? I know, I know. {He takes the flag from her and twirls it} So where'd you get this anyway? Cherryvale fireworks?
Lanie: Actually, no, I was in Llanview.
Colin: You know, we used to make some pretty good fireworks ourselves.
Lanie grabs the flag. She rolls her eyes as she turns away from him.
Colin: Do you remember?
She walks past him.
Lanie: Colin, don't. This isn't the time.
Colin: It never is anymore, Lanie. What happened to our good times? Not just the passion but the incredible sweetness afterwards. {he stands behind her, arms around her waist} When we used to hold each other in the dark.
Lanie: We did have some wonderful moments. We cared about each other a lot.
Colin: You see. It's still there. It's in you like it's in me. You can't make that connection go away anymore than I can.
She pushes away from him and turns around.
Lanie: Colin! Don't start.
Colin: Call off the divorce, Lanie. I mean, you just said it. We still care about each other.
Lanie: No, I said we did care about each other. Colin, please. Drop your counter suit.
Colin: No way. It's not gonna happen.
Lanie: Please! This is painful enough for us. Lindsay doesn't need to know what happened between me and Bo. I don't want her to get hurt.
Colin: It's too late, princess.
Lanie: What do you mean it's too late?
Colin: I mean I already filed a counter suit.
Lanie: Well then unfile it! Please! Lindsay cannot find out about me and Bo.
Colin: What do you think she'd do?
Lanie: I don't know. I don't even want to know. She's on the far edge of rational behavior already.
Colin: Wow. All this sudden sisterly concern. Very touching considering what she did to you.
Lanie: You mean what you and she did to me. Right?
Colin: You never forget, do you?
Lanie: My husband and my sister. That's a little hard to forget.
Colin: Oh, please. The two of you had it in for each other long before I came on the scene. I heard it all, remember?
Lanie: I don't deny that she's tried to hurt me. But revenge is not the answer.
Colin: So then what do you want?
Lanie: Something wonderful to happen. Something wonderful for Lindsay so she can have strength and hope again.
Colin: {smiling, amused and annoyed} Good ‘ol St. Melanie.
Lanie: She is a mess, Colin. And with good reason. She loved Bo. He left her at the altar and then she had a miscarriage. Then her only son is a an escaped convict on the run being hunted for something he didn't even do. I just want to help, that's all.
Colin: Bo Buchanan. You know, it's funny how all trails seem to come back to him.
Lanie: It's not his fault.
Colin: Yeah, well the jury's still out on that one.
Lanie: Look, whatever you think, Lindsay needs Bo. If you care at all, keep your mouth shut about all of this. Please. Promise me.
Colin: Wow. I didn't realize Lindsay's happiness meant so much to you.
Lanie: Yes, it does.
Colin: Enough to make you give up your thing with the commish?
Lanie: There's no thing to give up!
Colin: Really? Is that the truth? Look, are you sleeping with him or aren't you?
Lanie: It's none of your business!
Colin: Okay. I guess I deserve that.
Lanie: Colin, let's not do this.
Colin: You know what I used to tell myself? I used to say this isn't about Lanie. This isn't about our marriage. It's just sometimes I need something from someone else. It doesn't affect Lanie in any way, so why does it have to be a big deal? But it was a very big deal, wasn't it? I get that now. And it hurts like hell.
Lanie: Colin-
Colin: Look, I am sorry for all the times that I hurt you. If you want me to drop the counter suit, it's a done deal.
Lanie: What's the catch?
Colin: There's no catch. Just one question. One that I think I have the right to ask.
Lanie: You haven't earned any rights with me, Colin.
Colin: Then as a friend. Who happens to be your husband and your lover. Are you still involved with Bo Buchanan? {Yelling, angry} Just tell me! What is the deal with you and Bo Buchanan?
Lanie: We're friends.
Colin: Friends? That's a nice, neutral term. Let's elaborate a little bit. Friendly pals or friendly lovers?
Lanie: I don't know.
Colin: Well, now that's helpful!
Lanie: It's the truth! We had a real connection, I know that for sure. But Bo feels a certain commitment to Lindsay. And of course I understand that.
Colin: Do you? Is that because you feel a commitment to me? You know we are still husband and wife here.
Lanie: Not in any way that matters. Our marriage was self destructing long before I met Bo.
Colin: So then let's put a stop to it. Let's get back on track. Just tell me what to do!
As his voice grows louder and angrier, he reached toward her. Colin holds onto her arms.
Lanie: I have given you so many chances I've lost count! We have nothing left to build on.
Colin: Okay. So that's it then? I'll see you around.
He starts to leave her office.
Lanie: Colin, wait!
She chases after him. He rolls his eyes and turns around to face her.
Lanie: I need to know that you won't tell Lindsay. Please, Colin. Don't be vindictive.
Colin: {obviously offended} Vindictive? I don't want to hurt you, Lanie. Now or ever.
He moves closer. He touches the side of her face.
Colin: I love you. I always will.
He walks away.
At Colin's house. He storms into the bedroom holding one of the notes that Nora wrote.
Colin: What is this? ‘I'm being held captive by Colin MacIver.' Did you really think my housekeeper was going to give that message to the police?
He throws the note down on the bed and Nora is startled.
Colin: You know, you're making things worse here.
Nora: Worse? I am being held captive by some twisted thinking doctor in his own home! What's worse than that?
Colin: {softening, realizing what he was doing} Look, I'm sorry. I had a really bad day.
Nora: Aww, poor baby. Wanna trade places?
Colin: The way I feel right now, yeah.
Nora: Okay, crush your pelvis and hop on it.
He laughs slightly. Colin playfully hits the bed and then rests his hands over the mattress.
Nora: So, what happened in your bad day?
Colin: It's ironic. My wife's been keeping secrets. {Nora laughs} Why the hell didn't you tell me about this guy?
Nora: What do you mean? I don't know who you're talking about.
Colin: Yes, you do.
Nora: So how am I supposed to know who this guy is? Who is he? Sam? You think Sam is chasing your wife?
Colin: It's not Sam.
Nora: Well then who?
Colin: You know him very well. It's Bo Buchanan, your ex.
